Pacific Tradewinds Hostel

680 Sacramento Street

We are the smallest hostel in the city and we like it that way. Once you make the decision to join our community, you will be treated as an honored guest and a long lost friend visiting for a sleepover. Because we are small, we can maintain clean facilities that are top notch. Our beds are the sturdiest bunks in the world - custom made for backpackers with powder coated steel. These beds will not squeak or shake and there is backpack storage lockers underneath.

Some guests are initially taken aback when they walk through the door and are immediately introduced to other guests or asked to join us for a meal. Sometimes registration and other formalities can wait a bit. First and foremost, we would sincerely like to get to know you and let you get to know us. We’d like to know where you are from, where you’ve been and what you love about life. We appreciate it when guests leave some time for this when they arrive. This is where all the fun starts.

Pacific Tradewinds is in a great location, nestled comfortably between the Financial District and Chinatown, a stone's throw from the iconic Transamerican Tower, and stumbling-home distance from North Beach's vibrant bars. We are on a major bus line and roughly 5 blocks from the Muni/Bart station.

If you are a traveler who is friendly and social, we invite you to stay at Pacific Tradewinds. It’s a home where we are passionate about welcoming travelers.

Traveler Reviews

“A successful adventure”

Rating: 4 Reviewed on August 19, 2019

I’m Very happy with value of stay. Pleasant “roommates”. Social atmosphere that encouraged interaction but respected the desire not to interact. Definitely Recommended. Very courteous and respectful...

“Not for everyone”

We booked in at this hostel because of the location and price in comparison to other accommodation in San Francisco. It was great being right in the middle of the city and so close to China Town...

“Super cool place in all respect”

I stayed there for a short while but absolutely loved friendly cosmopolitan atmosphere around and great hospitality that was shown by Darren. The location is superb for those who want to check out...

From the San Francisco International Airport: (Note: The airport is located 14 miles South of San Francisco) The best way to get to us from the airport is to take the subway- BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) directly from the airport. Go to the Airtrain station in the airport and take the Red line from any terminal to the airport BART station. Take BART to San Francisco (Pittsburg/Baypoint, Richmond, or Fremont bound trains will all stop in San Francisco) and get off at Montgomery Street Station. Walk North (opposite direction of traffic) on Montgomery Street five blocks. Turn left on Sacramento Street. We are on the right. Trip takes about 35 minutes. BART runs from 4am to midnight. -or- By bus - catch the SamTrans bus 292. You can also take the KX express bus (no luggage allowed!) from arrivals at the baggage claim level outside terminal 2, or at the curb adjacent to courtyard ?, terminal 3. At the international terminal, Sam Trans buses are located near courtyard G on level 1. Get off the bus at Third and Mission Street. Walk (or take bus ?)North (in the same direction as the traffic) on Third Street past Market Street, then continue North on Kearny Street to Sacramento Street, then turn right. We are on the left. Trip takes about 1 hour. Buses run 6am-1am daily (you can see that BART is the more time efficient option!) -or- Take one of the many airport shuttle vans (Cost varies from $15-25) on the upper level of the airport on the outer island. Tell the driver you want to go

If you would like to cancel your reservation, you will need to call or email us at least 48 hours in advance of your arrival date so we can sell your bed to another traveler. Cancellations inside of 48 hours will not be refunded, regardless of reason. Booking fees paid to any online reservation sites are usually non-refundable but you can check with them. We look forward to meeting you!

Check in is available from 8am-midnight each day.
Check out must be by 10:30am, the day of departure.

As a travelers house, all guests are required to have a government issued photo ID and proof of traveling status (i.e. plane tickets or passport). You will be asked for a $20 refundable security deposit at check-in.

Most of our rules are common sense and will be explained at check-in. In general, we simply ask that guests follow the golden rule of living in a community: "Be Excellent to One Another".

A $20 key deposit will be required at check-in.
